Hosted by Living Cultures in Riepe!

Join Faculty Fellow Dr. Sebastián Gil-Riaño & the Living Cultures Program Community for this biweekly event! We'll discuss films, documentaries, tv episodes, and other cultural events. Students will watch available content for these discussions asynchronously before we meet. We hope you'll join this casual conversation & engage with us!

This week, join us for an informal discussion of one of Philadelphia's culinary gems: South Philly Barbacoa!

South Philly Barbacoa (SPB) has been described as "the country's most famous taqueria". Yet behind all the culinary fanfare, the restaurant's owner and chef Christina Martinez offers a compelling spotlight on the issues faced by undocumented migrants in this country.

During our discussion we'll discuss the episode of Chef's Table that profiles Christina Martinez (look for S05, E01).

And if you want to read more about her restaurant and some of her culinary choices, I recommend this piece.
